At Horizon Homes of Wilmington, we guide clients through a thoughtful, personalized home-building experience from early planning through final details. With hands-on involvement from our leadership, project, design, and field teams, we bring consistent communication, experienced oversight, and attention to detail to every phase of construction.
During pre-construction planning and design, owners Deans Hackney Jr. and Robin Hackney work closely with clients to choose the best site for their new home based on Deans’ extensive background in land development over the past 38 years. With Robin’s background as an appraiser, Realtor and designer, she creates thoughtful spaces based on the clients’ “Wishlist” and individual needs.
Our in-house interior designer, Player Murray, helps clients navigate colors, finishes, and selections that reflect their individual style and make each home feel distinctly their own using timeless materials with a modern flair.
With more than 40 years of combined experience, our build team—led by project manager Joda Bennett and superintendent Ax Coffey—is prepared to manage a wide range of custom home projects with care and precision. Their quality-driven approach keeps each project moving forward while ensuring the work is done correctly, thoughtfully, and to a high standard.

As the owners of Horizon Homes, Deans and Robin Hackney work together to create well-built, energy-efficient custom homes shaped around each client’s needs. Deans oversees land development, while Robin works closely with homeowners to bring their wish lists, ideas, and design goals to life.
Along with their design and construction team, they provide the personal attention and dependable service that define the Horizon Homes experience.
Joda Bennett
Project Manager (since 2008)
Joda brings nearly 30 years of hands-on framing and trade experience to his role as project manager. Known for his practical insight, collaborative approach, and steady job-site presence, he is always looking for thoughtful ways to improve the building process and deliver better results for clients.
Player Murray
Designer (since 2015)
Player’s keen eye for design makes her an invaluable asset to the Horizon Homes team. She helps clients translate their personal style into cohesive selections, introducing new products, materials, and design ideas that bring each home to life.
Ax Coffey

Ax brings a strong foundation in custom home building and a hands-on approach to daily site coordination. From plan revisions and field management to client communication, he helps keep each project organized, responsive, and moving forward.
